Something which plays a large part in our lives
We've so much selection I hardly know where to start.
Going back in time Square Dancing music was largely based on
Country music.
Times changed long ago and the music comes from many sources as well as
country - Shows, Rock, Jazz, blues and anything which is Popular.
Look around and see the different tunes.
Yes, they are all from the original songs.
They are all specially recorded for square Dancing. When we use these
tunes we refer to them as "Singing Calls". The Square
Dance movements are fitted into the song, using a few words of the
original song also.
The other style of music we use are called "Hoedowns".
This is "made-up" music, using rhythmic and toe-tapping sounds
but does not have a tune to it.
We always say " Square Dancing is: Fun and
Friendship set to music"
